EmSella is a first of its kind, non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment option for people who suffer from urinary incontinence (UI). The goal of EmSella is to treat incontinence early so that surgery isn’t necessary for the future.

About the EmSella Device

Cheekily referred to as a “kegel throne,” the EmSella device is a chair that implements high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to stimulate deep pelvic floor muscles.

Studies have proven that HIFEM tech can safely treat a wide range of patients suffering from urinary incontinence (UI).[1] A single session on the EmSella can produce approximately 11,200 supramaximal pelvic floor muscle contractions. These contractions help build supple strength and graceful resilience in the intimate areas where you need it most. Over time, the process effectively restores neuromuscular control over the pelvic floor muscles and bladder.

Many women have improved their health and given their confidence a boost with this unique treatment. Patients simply just have to sit down comfortably without even having to undress.

What Is Urinary Incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is a loss of bladder control. It can range from small leakages caused by laughing, coughing, and sneezing to fully not being able to control urinating at all. Patients often have to use absorbent pads.

Having UI is nothing to feel embarrassed about!

  • It affects 200 million people worldwide.
  • One in four women over 18 experience UI episodes.
  • Around 17% of women and 16% of men over 18 have an overactive bladder.
  • Around 25% of women over 60 deal with UI.
  • UI is twice as common in women as in men.

Emsella is the perfect treatment for re-educating the lower pelvic floor muscles in addition to medicines and behavior modifications.

What Causes Urinary Incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is caused by weak pelvic floor muscles, which causes control over the urinary sphincter to be lost or weakened. Weak pelvic floor muscles can be attributed to a number of factors like:

  • Pregnancy
  • Childbirth
  • Aging
  • Menopause
  • Everyday Habits

Types of Urinary Incontinence

  1. Urge Incontinence
When a sudden urge to urinate occurs, but there’s no time to get to a toilet.
  2. Stress Incontinence
When pressure is applied to the bladder. Pressure can come from working out, lifting, sneezing, laughing, or coughing.
  3. Overflow Incontinence
When the bladder can’t empty itself and frequent drips of urine.
  4. Functional Incontinence
When a physical or mental impairment prevents one from reaching the toilet in time. Somebody with arthritis, for example, could have functional incontinence.

Preparation

Thankfully, there’s no preparation or anesthesia required for an EmSella treatment. You will first be given an incontinence survey to determine your condition’s severity before and after treatment. Afterward, all you have to do is wear comfortable clothing and walk into the medspa as you are.

Procedure

First, you will sit down on the EmSella chair, then quietly relax and let the machine do its work. The device sends thousands of HIFEM pulses to induce thousands of contractions in your deep pelvic floor muscles. You will feel a tingle in your pelvic area. A single session typically lasts around 20 to 30 minutes. You can use that time to read, watch tv, play on your phone, or even take a nap. As long as you remain firmly seated in the chair, you can do as you please.

Recovery

After your session, you may leave the medspa and resume your daily activities. Besides the possibility of a little soreness, there are virtually no side effects or complications from the process.

Results

HIFEM has a proven track record when it comes to treating UI.[3] Most patients see results after six sessions, scheduled twice a week. Results may vary from person to person.

A recent study concluded that 95% of treated patients had reported remarkable improvements in their overall quality of life.

For most people, results can last up to 9 to 12 months.

Complementary Procedure: EmSculpt

DermFx is proud to offer additional FDA-approved, non-invasive, HIFEM technology procedures. Chief among them are the Emsculpt body shaping treatments. Emsculpt uses HIFEM energy to induce powerful muscle contractions to build muscle and burn fat.

Emsculpt

FDA-cleared for the improvement of abdominal tone and strengthening of the abdominal muscles. Tested in five unique abdominal clinical studies utilizing all four established methods of evaluation, including MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and Histology, Emsculpt delivered consistent results in muscle gain and fat loss:

  • 19% reduction in subcutaneous abdominal fat
  • 16% increase in muscle mass
  • Average waist reduction of 4.4cm
  • 96% satisfaction with treatment results

This unique energy device provides an additional means for body contouring with a primary application for lower and medium BMI patients.[4]

Emsculpt NEO

Emsculpt NEO is a combination treatment that combines HIFEM tech with radiofrequency heating to firm and tone targeted muscle groups while eliminating bothersome bulges of fat.

You’ll look and feel like you spent hours at the gym in a single 30-minute session.

Frequently Asked Questions

EmSella is a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment for people suffering from urinary incontinence. Patients sit on the device, and it emits thousands of high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) pulses to stimulate the development of the deep pelvic floor muscles.

Urinary incontinence (UI) is the inability to control one’s bladder due to weakened pelvic floor muscles.

High-intensity focused electromagnet (HIFEM) technology uses the principles of magnetic stimulation. It uses rapidly changing magnetic fields to generate electrical currents in the underlying tissue. These currents depolarize the motor neurons and cause the muscles to contract.

Yes, EmSella is safe. The FDA approved it in 2019, and studies have proven it to significantly advance pelvic floor muscle integrity.[5]

The ideal candidate for EmSella treatment is somebody who consistently struggles with UI.

Each EmSella session lasts anywhere between 20 and 30 minutes.

Most patients typically require around six sessions scheduled twice a week.

No. Other than some mild tingling, there is no pain.
