Skinvive by Juvéderm

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Sunset Beach, Newport Beach, Redondo Beach, Orange, Dana Point and Orange County

Skinvive is an injectable microdroplet gel that restores cheek smoothness and increases moisture in the skin. This treatment facilitates healing and radiance from the dermis of your skin, the layer that provides structure and youthful elasticity. It contains hyaluronic acid (HA), a lubricating and hydrating substance that is naturally found in the body. Just one treatment of Skinvive provides results that can last 6 to 9 months. (1) Unlike other Juvéderm products, it isn’t a dermal filler- but it still revitalizes your skin’s health and vastly improves its texture and tone.

If you’re looking for a non-surgical treatment to give you a natural-looking, glowy complexion that you will love, look no further than DermFx. All of our injectors are highly trained and knowledgeable in facial anatomy, and the art of facial rejuvenation. About Skinvive

Skinvive contains hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that is naturally created in the body to lubricate joints and the skin. As an FDA-approved moisturizer, Skinvive is completely biocompatible and biodegradable once it’s injected into the skin. (2) Skinvive also contains lidocaine, a common numbing agent that makes superficial injections much more comfortable.

While HA fillers are designated to volumize various areas of tissue sunkenness and to accentuate certain contours, Skinvive’s aim is to revive moisture in the cheek area, where the skin is less oily and prone to dryness. Unlike the “T zone” which consists of the forehead, nose, and chin, the cheeks are much more vulnerable to cold weather, UV rays, harsh soaps, and hot water.

After a treatment of Skinvive, your skin is able to draw in the moisture it needs to create a healthy, youthful glow. The HA binds itself to collagen and other connective fibers within the dermis layer of the skin, providing more support and structure for the skin’s extracellular matrix– the space between all of the skin cells. (3) This area contains proteins, minerals, and other molecules that aid wound healing and revitalization.

Besides the added hydration, the HA stimulates further production of connective fibers that add more elasticity and rigidity to the skin overall. HA accomplishes this by increasing the number of fibroblast cells, the cells that produce collagen and elastin. As a result, Skinvive can fill in fine lines in the cheek area without extra plumping.

Hyaluronic Acid v.s. Botox

HA treatments are designed to support the health of the skin itself, while Botox prevents and treats static wrinkles through the relaxation of facial muscles.

Candidates for Skinvive

Skinvive is suitable for almost all patients over the age of 21 who are looking to benefit from an all-natural, injectable gel that moisturizes deeply. Those who are allergic to lidocaine or other HA fillers should opt for a different method of skin rejuvenation. Lastly, if you’ve ever experienced a viral outbreak on the face, your injector may prescribe an antiviral medication to prevent an outbreak after injections.

Preparation

In preparation for your Skinvive injections, you should stop the use of any blood thinners or anti-inflammatories such as aspirin or ibuprofen. You should conduct a comprehensive overview of your current supplements; some have also been proven to have ingredients that can thin the blood. Any type of blood thinner can result in unwanted bleeding during the procedure and bruising during your recovery.

Treatment Steps

Skinvive procedures are quick and can even be completed over your lunch break; the average treatment session only takes about 15 minutes. First, your injector will cleanse your face with alcohol to prevent infection. Next, they will mark out the general locations of each injection in order to space out the medication. Then, they will administer Skinvive superficially into these areas and work to massage the skin so that the medication doesn’t remain in one spot.

After roughly 3 to 5 injections, they will replace the old needle with a new one to ensure each injection goes into the skin smoothly. The syringe enters at a 45-degree angle so that the medication enters the dermis and not any deeper. After a series of injections along the cheek, your injector will apply a post-procedure serum to encourage faster healing and reduce inflammation and redness. Most patients experience minimal discomfort due to the presence of lidocaine in the medication.

Recovery and Results

You will have some redness, itchiness, tenderness and/or swelling afterward, but these tend to subside quickly. We advise all of our patients to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, or sun exposure about 24 hours after any type of minimally invasive dermal treatment. Taking steps to avoid these will allow your skin to heal faster and will allow for a reduction of symptoms. Any of these minor side effects will completely resolve within a week or less. If you are not pleased with your results or experience negative reactions beyond 7 days, we will be able to effectively treat your skin with antibiotics, steroids, or hyaluronidase– a substance that dissolves HA and allows the body to metabolize it immediately. However, since HA is already produced within the skin, most patients respond well to Skinvive. Over the course of several weeks, it gradually works to improve skin smoothness from within, facilitating a beautiful radiance.
