Juvéderm Voluma

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Sunset Beach, Newport Beach, Redondo Beach, Orange, Dana Point and Orange County

Juvéderm Voluma is a dermal filler that utilizes hyaluronic acid (HA) to volumize the soft tissues of the chin and cheeks. Hyaluronic acid acts as a water-binding molecule, providing more hydration and fullness to the dermal layer of the skin. Due to its plumping effect, patients opt for Juvéderm to resolve skin aging issues such as facial hollowness and deep lines.

Before and After Photos

Capable of sculpting a more defined facial structure, Juvéderm Voluma adds projection to the cheekbones and along the jawline. Since beginning the line of FDA-approved Juvéderm products in 2006, Juvéderm Voluma has proven itself as the longest-lasting in the entire collection.

At DermFx, with several locations throughout Southern California, our skincare specialists perform Juvéderm Voluma treatments with precision and expertise, ensuring that the filler reaches the optimal depths within the dermis. Our techniques leave patients feeling confident that their results beautify their natural features, not obscure them. About Juvéderm and Other Dermal Fillers

Juvéderm, like many other dermal fillers, is not designed to simply mask wrinkles and the appearance of sagging facial skin. Juvéderm supports skin health in two ways: remodeling with a boosted influx of collagen and elastin over a long period and providing volume with added hydration to the dermis. As a result, this filler can work against finer lines while also reducing the appearance of fat atrophy. Depending on which type, patients can “fill in” a variety of issues, including:

  • Nasolabial folds, also called “smile lines”
  • Marionette lines
  • Cheek and cheekbone volume loss
  • Vertical lip lines, also called “smoker’s lines”
  • Thin lips
  • Poorly defined or rounded jawline
  • Receded chin
  • Tear troughs and eye bags.

More About Hyaluronic Acid

The hyaluronic acid droplets attract water, which is the main reason the skin exhibits greater firmness, volume, and radiance after treatment. (1) HA injections are 100% biodegradable, and the body can metabolize it over time. Patients displeased with the results of filler treatment can request the administration of hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down HA immediately. In addition to these procedural and aesthetic benefits, HA injections include lidocaine to properly minimize discomfort significantly.

Juvéderm v.s. Botox

Both Juvéderm and Botox are anti-aging treatments, but they are equipped to correct specific aging concerns, and they operate differently. Botox is a wrinkle relaxer that affects muscle contraction. Botox is just one of a few wrinkle relaxer injections offered at DermFx; others include Daxxify, Xeomin, and Dysport. Injectors administer these directly into the facial muscle, relaxing the overlying lax skin. Unlike dermal fillers, Botox cannot volumize in any way, and they are only suitable for those who want to treat wrinkles.

Benefits of Juvéderm Voluma

Juvéderm Voluma first gained FDA approval in 2013, and since then, it has grown in popularity due to the wide range of benefits patients can expect from just one injection session:

  • It is an entirely non-surgical form of facial rejuvenation.
  • The procedure itself only takes about 15-30 minutes.
  • This specific formulation of HA is resilient against movement within the chin and cheeks, providing improved contours for up to 2 years. (2)
  • No downtime is required, and the results settle in immediately.
  • Patients can combine other forms of Juvéderm for facial balancing.
  • The HA utilized is chemically identical to the HA produced naturally by skin cells.
  • With added lidocaine, patients can enjoy a more comfortable experience.

Candidates

Juvéderm Voluma is approved for healthy individuals without a lidocaine allergy. It is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Individuals with active acne in the treatment area/s should address their condition long before considering a dermal filler treatment. Voluma can be transformative for those with good skin elasticity. It also creates more comprehensive changes for those with hollowed cheeks due to the aging process or a poorly defined chin; those with only wrinkles from the movement or facial expressions may benefit from a neuromodulator like Botox.

Preparation

Before your Juvéderm Voluma treatment, your specialist will provide specific pre-procedure instructions to ensure optimal results and a smooth recovery. It is important to follow these closely to get the best results. They may include:

  • Avoiding blood thinners: Aspirin and certain medications and supplements can cause pinpoint bleeding and bruising.
  • Temporarily stopping smoking: Cigarettes and nicotine can affect how your skin heals and increase the risk of complications.
  • Temporarily refraining from drinking alcohol: You should aim to avoid alcohol for at least 2 days before your procedure since it acts as a blood thinner that can cause bruising.
  • Using an ice pack. Applying a cold compress or ice pack on the areas of your face that will receive the Juvéderm injections should mitigate bruising.

Juvéderm Voluma Procedure Steps

Before administering Voluma to contour your cheeks and/or chin, your injector will offer a topical numbing cream if you are concerned about discomfort. However, these injections will likely be highly tolerable due to the presence of lidocaine in the Voluma formulation. Your injector will then cleanse your skin.

After preparing for the session, your injector may mark out the targeted areas to promote a more even, natural appearance. They will then begin making their superficial injections, making sure to exchange the needle every few injections to avoid using a dull tip. The treatment typically only takes about 15-30 minutes. After each injection, your injector will massage the area to allow the HA to spread throughout the skin evenly.

Recovery and Results

Soon after your treatment, your injector will encourage you to apply an ice pack on the injection sites, but you still may have minor swelling, irritation, and bruising. Over the following days, you may experience some itchiness as well. You will need to continue to avoid blood thinners and be mindful of using the right over-the-counter medications. For example, ibuprofen and certain herbal supplements can still cause residual bruising to develop. You will need to use gentle skincare products, avoid makeup, and avoid exercising, heat, and sunlight for at least 1 day. Though you will have to follow these simple instructions, you will enjoy your results immediately since HA fillers work upon contact with the dermis, improving projection and volume immediately. Studies show that Voluma can maintain results for up to 2 years. (2)

FAQ

How is Juvéderm Voluma different from other forms of Juvéderm?

Voluma was created for the mid-face, and it is designed to contour more flattering, defined contours, so this formulation of HA is thicker and more resilient against movement, time, and gravity.

Will Juvéderm Voluma lift my face?

Since it has skin rejuvenation benefits, it is possible to see some improvement in elevation. For the most part, Voluma utilizes its water-binding properties to add volume to the dermis of the treatment area, erasing wrinkles and irregular contours.

How many Juvéderm Voluma treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient, depending on their individual goals and desired outcomes. Many patients are more than satisfied with just one treatment of Juvéderm Voluma.
