Full lips permanently!

DermFx is pleased to offer our patients the new Lipfx treatment using the natural Perma Facial Implant™. It is the safe, definitive solution for permanent tissue augmentation designed exclusively for lip enhancement.

Perma Facial Implant™ has been developed over the last four years by plastic surgeons in the United States and is a revolutionary method of enhancing lips in a single session that does not require repeated treatments. Perma Facial Implant™ does not grow into surrounding tissues or harden or degenerate over the years. It is permanent but you have the flexibility of having it removed should you want to. There is nothing else on the market really able to offer such a safe, yet flexible solution to thin lips. The fifteen minute procedure leaves no visible scarring and if requested is reversible. That is the advantage of having Lipfx!

What is Lipfx?
Lipfx is permanent lip enhancement designed to improve fullness of thin or aging lips. The new Perma Facial Implant™ is a permanent facial implant made up of soft, solid silicone naturally contoured with a smooth, non–porous surface which is tapered at each end to match the natural shape of lips. The implants come in a variety of sizes depending on the amount of lip augmentation needed.

Is Lipfx safe?
Manufactured in the USA, Perma Facial Implant is made up of a very soft, solid silicone elastomer using an injection molding process to produce a standardized, naturally contoured implant with a smooth non-porous surface. Perma Facial Implant™ is an FDA approved device designed for tissue augmentation of the face and has undergone extensive clinical testing to ensure its safety and efficacy. The implant cannot rupture or deflate and may be removed at any time. Perma Facial Implant™ is unique in that it is manufactured from a very soft, but solid, silicone.

How does the Lipfx procedure work?
For permanent lip enhancement patients will first meet with our physician and discuss the desired expectations and results. During the consultation, the appropriate length and diameter is determined. The Lipfx procedure takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes and is performed in our office in a sterile environment under local anesthesia. The implants are inserted via two small incisions at the corner of the mouth on the upper and/or lower lips. The implant passes through a tunnel created in the lip and is precisely centered. The incisions are then closed with absorbable sutures.

Is Lipfx temporary or permanent?
Lipfx is designed to be permanent lip enhancement; however it can easily be removed at any time due to the smooth surface of the implant. The surface consists of a proprietary coating to avoid the silicone from coming in direct contact with the body, stops tissue in-growth into the implant and reduces the development of excess scar tissue. Although Perma Facial Implant™ is permanent, it is also designed to be easily reversible should a person wish to return to their original appearance.

Why is Perma Facial Implant™ different from other techniques used to augment facial.
Lipfx offers a permanent alternative to repetitive, costly, and painful filler injections, and strives to overcome the potential complications of permanent injectable and solid implants. Perma Facial Implant is contoured, has a smooth surface to minimize tissue ingrowths, and is reversible.

How do I know the implant is the right size for me?
Perma Facial Implant™ is available in a variety of diameters and lengths to accommodate the uniqueness of each person’s tissue characteristics. During the course of a consultation with your DermFx physician, it will be determined what Perma Facial Implant™ size is best suited for you.

How is Perma Facial Implant™ different?
Perma Facial Implant™ is composed of a material ideally suited for use in the facial tissues. Other implants that have been used utilize substances that can potentially cause “tissue in-growth” into the surrounding tissue—in a sense, scarring to the implant itself. This process increases the likelihood of restricted or unnatural movement. This potential problem has been minimized due to the surface characteristics and the type of material used to manufacture the Perma Facial Implant™.

What should I expect post-operatively?
You should expect to be swollen and slightly tender post-operatively. Depending on the individual, there may be some bruising as well. The majority of bruising and swelling usually subsides after the first week. Discomfort is usually present for a few days, which will be alleviated by pain medication prescribed by your physician.

Is it quite painful?
Most discomfort, if present, usually resolves after 24-48 hours, although you will be sensitive to light or medium pressure for about 2 weeks.

Is there much bruising?
There is really not very much bruising with typical cases, although this may vary from person to person. Some patients are more prone to bruising than others. We suggest that you take Arnica montana or Bromelain orally to decrease bruising. You may be instructed to use a topical arnica ointment as well. These three products are thought to decrease both bruising and swelling for many surgical procedures.

When will I be able to see the results?
The operative site will be swollen the first few days following the procedure. As the swelling subsides you will begin to see your final result.

How are facial implants comparable to injectables?
Implants do not wear off like temporary injectables. Temporary injectables are associated with repeat treatments every few months as the body breaks down the filler. Therefore, repetitive, painful, and costly injection procedures are required indefinitely to be maintained. Permanent, or long-term fillers, also exist. While this type of filler does not need to be repeated regularly, they can be very difficult to remove. If an undesirable appearance results, or if a patient wishes to revert to their original appearance, this may be difficult to accomplish. Perma Facial Implant™ has the advantage of being both permanent, yet easily reversible, giving it the best of both worlds.
